iv got the pattern for a beautiful jacket knitted in this wool. BUT it's going to cost me well over £60 for wool! anyone suggest a really nice alternative that won't cost as much? i do like some wool content & prefer a yarn that doesnt fluff up/pil/shred! can anyone advise how click dk & balmoral dk knit & wear? i'm wondering IF they might be a good alternative. thnx fellow knitters. glynis

I have been using this marvellous site for a few years and daren't look at it too much in case I get yet another "bargain" as I have plenty to be going on with! Can't watch TV without my needles going - it is just so relaxing. I just wanted to say that I was not keen on Balmoral DK as it was hard and scratchy. I haven't tried Click but I would look for at least 50% wool to avoid too much pilling, although pure wool does it a lot and you just have to take it off with sticky tape. I have just knitted a jumper in washed haze dk (cotton/acrylic) and it knitted up beautifully. It was a bargain price, as ever from marvellous Kemps, but they may have some left?

thanks for info ladies & hey nice of you to take time & reply. ive just placed my first order with kemps. this is for wool to knit a cardi for myself. the jacket can wait til ive decided on what wool to use. i worked with a lady many many years ago. she would knit things for herself & husband using reasonable quality wool - mostly then phildar dk (anyone remember it) she would have a few years wear from say a cardi. then she'd unpick it & re knit it into something else (say a jumper) i kind of 'laughed' at this at the time. but thinking about it now. it's beginning to make some sense. new for old. recycled. cant be bad!!

Hi glynis. Welcome to the world of Kemps knitters. I just read your blog, and yes I do remember Phildar. I used to knit loads of kiddy's cardigans/jumpers. Their patterns were always different and the colours were out of this world. I always received compliments for them. I once bought a phildar pattern from France (where they were still sold) and paid good money to get it translated. But it did not translate well added to the fact that the lady who translated it was not a knitter. Imagine my dissapointment!! However there are lots of lovely designs from the UK now - so let's all get knitting. ps. You won't find a better site than Kemps, I've looked but nothing compares. pps I don't work for Kemps, I just think their site is the tops.

Hi, you might like to try some James Brett pure merino double knit. My local yarn store stocks it and I have just made a lovely bolero in the dark purple shade. Beautiful to knit with and much cheaper than Sublime. Bit splitty if you try to crochet. Not as many colours as Sublime but well worth a look. I intend to do lots of projects with this yarn. Costs about £2.50 for a 50g ball, machine washable, 124m per ball. Hope this helps, Jenni
