I've never used it, but there are three sets of comments about it on Ravelry that you might find useful: 1. LOVE this yarn - and the colorway I got is amazing! I’m going to have to get some more so I can make another top for me in it (the one I’m making with it right now is a gift and the recipient already knows about it unfortunately!) 2. I want to love this yarn, but I haven’t been too keen on the way the colours break up. The texture, on the other hand, is wonderful, with a lot of character and drama. I did like how two strands held together worked up as fisherman’s rib. Much gentler colour progression. I did a scarf in the pale blue colour and it looked like a softly clouded sky. 3. I agree with MadameX [Poster of Comment 1] that the colours break up strangely. It’s not stripey and does not create a colour pattern. It would have been nice if it did ‘cos the colorway is really pretty, but the way the colours break up doesn’t show it off well. However, the texture is silky, soft and smooth. The yarn is also rather thin, and being a rather loose knitter I would have had to use 2mm needles, which would have taken forever to knit something, so I had to use it to crochet instead, and it is working out well. Hope this helps STG

Haven't used it myself, but it says it uses 4.5mm needles, so it must be a bit thicker than DK (which uses only 4mm needles). Only one comment on Ravelry about the yarn and that's to the effect that each ball used had a zonking great knot in the middle of it where they'd joined the yarn. Hope this helps. STG

Patons Vintage is definitely an aran weight. One word of warning - it is rather hard on the hands when knitting as it has absolutely no stretch and it has a tendency to wind up on itself like a telephone cable. (sorry - that was two words of warning!) Didn't much like the yarn knitted myself but it is beautiful for crocheting bags and the colours are just juicy!
