Hi All, I have been shopping with Kemps for a couple of years now and have bough many fashion wools on discount. My family and friends all laughed at me when I got excited about a new pair of socks I had knitted , my latest scarf triumph, not to mention the "unique" gloves and hats I have made. I would just like to say - Whos laughing now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, my daughters turned their noses up at homemade wristwarmers hats and neck warmers etc... They soon changed their tune when they saw the prices in the shops and I have been busy working my way through Sirdar Crofter's d k range keeping them warm.

Hi, I have knitted with crofter, it is lovely knitted up & modern looking for daughters!
My 17 year old son who would not be seen dead in anything hand knitted and thinks his old mum is sad for knitting asked me last night to make him some fingerless gloves and thick socks- not so sad after all ha ha

But do they have to be black? My son will only wear black, and I hate knitting it! Glad we are not knitting in vain, ladies!

Its so dull black isn't it. I knitted a nice neck warmer for my daughters boyfriend in black and a colourful crofter chunky for her. Cast on 76 sts on a 6.5 circular needle moss stitch 4 rows knit 38 rows then 4 more moss stitch ones. Cast off. Finished. Great alternative to scarf . Takes just under 100 g sirdar chunky style wool . I love knitting these they grow quickly need no sewing up and look a smart alternative to a scarf.

Thanks for the neck warmer pattern. I'm off to try it. Will probably use two strands of Dk to look tweedy

I was inspired by all your ideas so went off and found some grey and black dk left over from another project and I made some chunky wrist warmers for my son in a couple of hours. They are like fingerless gloves but take far less time.

I've been knitting wrist warmers for my 8 year old daughter too, and have now got another request from my niece, so far i've knitted two pairs, but family members are hinting strongly, it's amazing how popular we knitters are when the weather becomes cold!

My son was so pleased with the wrist warmers that I made him a pair of socks to match, something I thought I couldn't do! It was a bit touch and go, but I persevered and have done them over the weekend. They are chunky and on two needles. So other doubters, give socks a go!

I finished the black fingerless gloves and socks my son asked for over the weekend. I used the crofter DK pattern for two needle socks which was much quicker and easier than the usual way. He was very pleased with them. I think I will try the pattern for neck warmer mentioned above as well, sounds nice and quick to knit.
