I have emailed about this before. I am not fussy about any of the patterns in the Inca book and have 10 balls of Inca grey/black/white stripe Colour 7027. Try as I might I cannot find this yarn anywhere. I originally bought it last year from Kemps but they don't have any more and I don't think I have enough to make the very simple cardigan I had in mind. I am afraid to start knitting it into a cardi in case there's not enough and it doesn't help that it does not work out to any sort of ply - its not chunky or aran. Its knitted on size 7mm needles. I have just read Knittingoma's reply to my original Inca query dated last November!!! and wondered if you have knitted it up and how far it goes. I have a chunky pattern I could use but don't want to start it in case I run out of wool. Any help would be appreciated.

From what you say, the tension isn't far off that for chunky. However looking at this yarn on another site, I see the balls are quite short at 58m/50g. 10 balls doesn't sound like enough for any type of cardigan. Maybe you could knit some accessories instead, or try something in two colours.

Thanks. I have seen that but its a bit expensive, I don't think they would split it and I already have ten balls. I only wanted another 3 or 4. It appears this yarn is from Australia - I could get it there but have no idea what it would cost in Aus. dollars.
Kemps still have it listed and say its due in shortly. Is it please, and if so, how long roughly.
My only other alternative is to knit the borders in something else as I don't really want scarves or hats out of it. Its a lovely wool and looks very nice knitted up. I could kick myself for not ordering more but didn't know the balls were quite short. Strange though, it comes in packs of 10 which is not enough to knit a cardi/jumper.

when you calculate any knitting pattern for quantitiy you must always look for the length of the wool ie 50gms=86metres or 50gms =126 metres-----------------on average you need 1000 metres for a jumper or cardigan of any length unless its a modern crop top type. i am usung the wool the mention and i know you will only be able to knit a sleevless top or waistcoat maybe longer length---------however be creative and use a different wool for the welt on the botton and sleeves and front edging then knit it shorter than normal and see how it goes-----divide the balls up and and measure how much you can knit per ball---------GOOD LUCK!!----TW

Hi Patsy
Thanks for that. I found some black Inca on a website, ordered it and then got an email saying it was all gone! Good news however the lady had one she thought would do and also one she was not sure about and would send me a swatch. Ordered and received the one she thought would do. It wouldn't! But lo and behold the swatch was the one I have been looking for for months. Returned the wouldn't do and phoned to ask if she would send me the other one. It was also reduced. So after all that, I may now get to knit my cardi with sleeves! Hopefully now, the end of the Inca saga>
Thanks all.

That is good news .Its always nice to hear that a project can be finished. The other thing you could, have done was to knit it on slightly bigger needles and therefore need less stiches and rows to help make the wool go further. You would need to play about with a tension swatch first. I have done this before. Changed needles to bigger ones and then knitted a size smaller to make it right. You must let the forum know when you have finished it.

Hi Phillipa
I have a chunky pattern as Inca patterns only come in a book and I did not like the ones I saw, so I am going to use that. Its only a simple st st cardi and I think it will be ok. I may have to knit a size smaller as Inca wool does not have a ply (?) its thicker than chunky and not a super chunky. Heigh ho, will give it a go and yes I'll let you know when it finished. Thanks to all who replied.
