I'm a beginner and have a baby pattern by Erica Knight that uses Jaeger Cashmere 4 ply (25g). Can anyone tell me which Sirdar equivalent I can use? Thank you.

Hi Aroha
I think any 4 ply would be ok, probably cheaper too. Just check your tension, do a tension piece first and use the same number needles. I am a great fan of Sirdar so perhaps you could try that. Let me know how it works out.

Hi Janey – thanks so much for your reply. I’m really fretting over this baby pattern because the Jaeger Cashmere 4 ply is discontinued. The book says this particular 4ply yarn knits up as a DK weight. Tension is 28 stitches to 36 rows (4in) on 3mm. Curiously the pattern recommending the use of this particular yarn gives tension of 22 stitches & 32 rows on 3.75mm. Does this make sense?
I was given some Jaeger Silk DK; tension of 22 stitches & 30 rows on 4mm. Can I use this instead? And if so, should I be aiming for the same tension of 22 stitches & 32 rows on 3.75mm needles? Or sticking to what the ball says 22-30 on 4mm? and going ahead as per pattern? I am so confused and don’t want to mess up before I’ve even started! Would really appreciate help. Thank you.

Hi Aroha
Just spotted Jaeger Cashmere 4 ply yarn on Angel Yarns. Have a look and see if it's what you need. The good news it's also on sale!!! Hope this helps - let me know. I have not really read your last post properly will do so now and see if it makes sense - if you can't get the right wood from Angel. Jane

Hi Aroha
Janey again. I dont really know 22 or 28 stitches - just try a tension piece and see which fits the bill.
Did you try Angel Yarns yet? Hope you will find what you need. Let me know.

Hi Janey, unfortunately I didn't see this post until today and looked at Angel Yarns. They no longer have Jaeger Cashmere 4 ply so guess I missed it. Never mind. I am going ahead with using the Pure Silk DK I have on 3.75 mm needles. I did a tension square, which was a couple of stitches over i.e. 24 rather than 22 but figured that it wasn't enough to change to 4mm needles. The item is a Classic Cashmere Jumper from Erika Knights, Simple Knits for Cherished Babies. It's supposed to be very easy! but... Thanks for your help by the way.
